RAINFOREST FASHION : MAY 21, 2010
Malaysian Batik Designer, Sharifah Maheran Barakbah of Barakaff and 22 Torpedo Factory Art Center artists are collaborating their creative talents in the "Art and Fashion Inspired by the Rainforest" in Alexandria, Virginia on May 21, 2010 at 7.30 PM.
The Fashion Show sponsored by Tourism Malaysia, Matrade, Friends of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, Torpedo Factory Art Center and MyBizCouncil, LLC promises to be a
memorable evening of Art Exhibition and Fashion Show extravaganza.
The show, sponsored by Friends of Torpedo Factory Art Center, The Torpedo Factory Art Center, Tourism Malaysia and MyBizCouncil, will feature Torpedo Factory Artists who will showcase their exciting works of art, all depicting the magical world of the rainforests in the Art Exhibition, while the wearable art and jewelry artists for the first time will showcase their talents in the Fashion Show.
Participating Artists from the Torpedo Factory: Mirella Belshe, Cindy Brandt, Ruth Buhrman, Ann Citron, Ann DiPlacido, Candace Edgerly, Tamara Embry, Min Enghauser, Annemarie Feld, Jolande Goldberg, Zoya Gutina, Marcia Jestaedt, Anne Landry, Virginia Irby-Maxwell, Marcel, Jamaliah Morais, Lane Palmisano, Gladys Seaward, Connie Slack, Alexia Scott, Tracie Griffith-Tso, and Liang Wei.
Malaysian artist and textile designer Sharifah who has more than 30 years’ experience in Batik textile design on crinkled chiffon, silk and satin is making a comeback – this time with her latest Summer collection depicting the mysterious Malaysian rainforest.
Sharifah’s most creative designs are created free-hand. Her hand-drawn Batik motifs are a composition of colors that depict her environment or earthy geometric designs, the last of which is her signature style. Trained in fashion and textile designs in Kuala Lumpur and London, Sharifah actively promotes her Batik designs globally under the label “Barakaff” in fashion and trade shows in collaboration with the Malaysian Trade Office (Matrade).
